Break-up Payments for Unmarried Couples?
In the wake of the recent landmark court ruling that could see break-up payments for unmarried couples, please see below a comment from Cath Karlin, bto’s accredited specialist in child and family law:
“The decision in Gow v. Grant in the Supreme court is welcome news for many in that it brings a degree of clarity in the law relating to cohabiting couples.
Until now, most people have been confused as to their rights and obligations if they co habit.
It is now crystal clear that there are financial consequences to cohabitation that many couples have overlooked in the past.
It is more important than ever that couples consider entering into cohabitation agreements regulating what is to happen if they split.”
