Practice Group Team Leader: Greg Bergman, Bergman & Dacey gbergman@bdgfirm.com

The Employment and Labor Group is focused on all aspects of employment law and litigation throughout the world.  The goal of the group is exchange information about the various aspects of labor and employment law in the different jurisdictions and also to strengthen the relationships of employment and labor lawyers within the Mackrell membership.  We encourage interaction via news blurbs or e mail-releases and conference calls within the practice group.  The practice areas include tips and ideas on preventative risk counseling and advice, administrative hearings and complaints filed with outside agencies, labor relations, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution.

PRACTICE GROUP WEBINAR

Over 100 Mackrell members and their clients joined in April 4th ‘s lively webinar on best practices for writing and enforcing social media policies and handling Facebook complaints.  Presenters David Gevertz of Baker Donelson in Atlanta, Deborah Catalano of Akerman Senterfitt in Orlando and David Dubberly of Nexsen Pruet in South Carolina shared their experience in the US where the National Labor Relations Board is prosecuting complaints against non-unionized as well as unionized employers that have overly broad social media policies and/or that discipline employees for critical and disparaging social media posts.

David Dubberly said “Demand for more on this topic was global and overwhelming.  The webinar was timely because social media has changed how employees communicate and complain about work and supervisors.  This is a global issue and perfect for Mackrell members.”

Clive Miéville, Managing Director of Mackrell International said “This is a great example of Mackrell practice groups in action.  The sharing of information and legal updates with members and clients across the globe. It all helps to make Mackrell members the first choice legal advisors to their clients and contacts.”

Highlighting the global nature of the issue, Mackrell member Léon Peeters of Ten Holter/Nordaam Advocaten in Dordrecht in the Netherlands said “Thank you very much indeed for giving me my first webinar experience. It was very good to listen to you. The subject was relevant for my own labour/employment practice although we do not have similar legislation in The Netherlands. The cases were very recognisable.  In fact the other month we had almost a case where our Judge ruled also in favour of the employer.  Justice is the same all over the world.”

The team plans to hold a repeat webinar  to meet demand.  Register your interest now with David directly on ddubberly@nexsenpruet.com
