Leading Nigerian firm joins MI’s growing African network

MI has recruited one of Nigeria’s leading law firms to become the seventh firm in its rapidly growing African network. Lagos-based Giwa-Osagie & Company has 16 lawyers providing a full range of corporate advice across a number of sectors including energy and natural resources, telecommunications and foreign investments. Clients are multinationals, foreign embassies, chambers of commerce and regulatory bodies. Giwa-Osagie & Co follows The Chambers of Gavin Glover QC in Mauritius and Astute Attorneys in Tanzania to become MI’s third African member to join in 2015.

Chambers 2015 recommended Giwa-Osagie & Co ‘for assisting foreign companies seeking entry into the Nigerian market. Deep knowledge of compliance and the financial services sector. Particularly well known for M&A and capital markets matters.’

Osayaba Giwa-Osagie, partner, said: “Our clients automatically turn to us for international advice and we’re pleased to have found the ideal global partnership through Mackrell International. They proved to us that across the world their members share our commitment to quality and professionalism. And we are delighted to be able to provide their clients with outstanding legal advice and local connections in Nigeria.”

Clive Mieville, managing director MI said: “Nigeria was a key country for us in terms of our global offering, it’s a country where we know there is demand from clients, so Giwa-Osagie is a timely addition to our African team. Indeed Africa is an important economy for us and we expect to announce more members over the next few months. They are as ambitious as we are.”

Nigeria is the world's 20th largest economy with an abundant supply of natural resources, well-developed financial, legal, communications, transport sectors and stock exchange (the Nigerian Stock Exchange), which is the second largest in Africa. According to Citigroup, Nigeria will generate the highest average GDP growth in the world between 2010–2050 and is one of two countries from Africa among 11 Global Growth Generators countries. Nigeria is a member of the MINT group of countries, which are widely seen as the globe's next "BRIC-like" economies, and listed among the "Next Eleven" economies set to become among the biggest in the world.
