MI Chinese member founding partner David Yu appointed President of Shanghai Bar Association

David Yu, founding partner of MI’s Chinese member, has been appointed President of the Shanghai Bar Association (SRA). His firm, Llinks Law Offices, is ranked in Legal 500 for banking and finance, capital markets, corporate M & A, dispute resolution and tax. Llinks Law has also just been awarded Shanghai Law Firm of the Year at the Asian Legal Business Awards after being shortlisted in seven categories.

The SBA was established in 1912 and resumed in 1979 as a social organisation for all Shanghai lawyers and law firms in accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on Lawyers and under the direction and supervision of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice. There are 17276 members as of 30 April 2015. In a recent overview, UK legal publication The Lawyer described Shanghai, China’s largest city with over 23 million people, as the ‘showpiece’ of modern China and directed ‘anyone seeking to understand China’s economic miracle would be well-advised to head to Shanghai.’

Clive Mieville, managing director of MI, said: “We are enormously privileged to have such a leading light as David in the MI membership. His firm is an outstanding example of all the qualities we look for in our members including being in the top 10% of their country’s legal community. As global business of all shapes and sizes turn their attention to China, MI is well-positioned to advise on how to maximise opportunities through our members in Shanghai and Hong Kong.”
